TIA

Celestia

Layer 1

The first modular data-availability chain: fast technology, tiny fee income, and a token down 97% from its peak.

Bottom line

Celestia keeps shipping: Matcha cut inflation to ~2.5% in Nov 2025, Fibre went live on mainnet on 20 Oct 2026 and the Eden EVM chain launched on 16 Oct. Paid demand has not followed: blob fees were only ~6,500 TIA in the month to September 2026, against ~2.5M TIA of monthly issuance plus ~9.7M of investor and team unlocks. TIA is +37% this year after a sharp October rally, but still −38% over 12 months and −97% from its Feb 2024 high. The open question is whether the proposed blob economy (paid capacity, bonds, fee burning) turns cheap blobspace into real revenue.

03 Apr 26 Year low at $0.29. TIA closes at $0.2857, then trades mostly between $0.30 and $0.47 until September.
  5. 5
22 Sep 26 Blob economy proposal. Revised package of six proposals with a $1.5M ceiling: reserved capacity, TIA bonds, fee burning; TIA rises ~19% on the news.
  6. 6
16 Oct 26 Eden EVM chain launches. EVM sandbox for AI-agent commerce with TIA as gas; TIA up about 16% that day.
  7. 7
20 Oct 26 Fibre live on mainnet. Activated after validators with 83% of voting power signalled support; rollups can upload blobs up to 128 MiB directly to validators.
  8. 8
Nov 26 Unlocks step down. Monthly vesting falls from ~9.7M to ~5.1M TIA, per Messari's schedule, until Oct 2027.
  9. 9
Soon Blob economy approvals. Each phase of the package, starting with a $225k feasibility study, needs its own approval; no dates set.

How a rollup publishes data on Celestia

User
Trades on a rollup

Transaction runs on the rollup (e.g. Eclipse or Eden), not on Celestia.

Sequencer
Batches transactions

Rollup operator bundles thousands of transactions into one blob.

Celestia
Pays for the blob

PayForBlobs (or PayForFibre for large uploads) with a fee in TIA.

Validators
Order and erasure-code

Proof-of-stake validators put the blob in a block and extend it so missing pieces are detectable.

Light nodes
Sample the block

Download small random pieces to confirm all data was published.

Rollup
Proves state

Anyone can rebuild the rollup's state from the published data.

Where TIA comes in: rollups pay blob fees in TIA (to validators, not burned today), validators and delegators stake TIA and receive newly minted TIA (~2.5% a year), and TIA is gas on Eden. Fees are tiny next to issuance, so the token's value rests on staking and future fee changes.

Fees: ~6,500 TIA in the month to September 2026 (Cryptopolitan). Issuance: ~2.5% of 1.18B TIA a year divided by 12. Unlocks: Messari schedule, ~9.7M a month to Oct 2026, ~5.1M from Nov 2026. Paid usage covers well under 0.1% of new supply.

Benchmark, not production use; mainnet limit 128 MiB blobs, 200 Fibre messages per block.

Celestia is used, but almost nobody pays much for it: monthly fees are a rounding error next to issuance and unlocks. Watch monthly fees in TIA and the number of large rollups on Fibre; the blob-economy votes decide whether that can change.

Project

What it is
A proof-of-stake chain built on Cosmos that only orders and publishes data ("blobs") for other chains and rollups; they do their own execution and post data to Celestia because it is cheaper than Ethereum. Mainnet since 31 Oct 2023.
Team
Celestia Labs, co-founded by Mustafa Al-Bassam and John Adler (inventor of optimistic rollups); Nick White is COO. In June 2025 the founders cited a ~$100M war chest and a six-year runway.
Technology
Data availability sampling lets light nodes check that data was published without downloading it. Matcha (Nov 2025) set a path to 128MB blocks; Fibre, live since 20 Oct 2026, lets rollups upload large blobs directly to validators and hit 1 Tb/s in tests.
Traction
Early 2026 reports put Celestia at about half of the alt-DA market by data published, but paid fees are tiny: ~437k TIA in total history and ~6,500 TIA in the month to September 2026. One rollup, Eclipse, made up ~84% of blob volume by mid-2026.
Competitors
Ethereum blobs (the default for most L2s), EigenDA, Avail and NEAR DA. Ethereum's own blob capacity keeps rising, which caps what alt-DA layers can charge.
Key risks
Cheap blobspace means fee income may never cover issuance; customer concentration; ongoing unlocks to Oct 2027; heavy spot selling into the October rally.
Roadmap
Sustainable Blob Economy package (revised 22 Sep 2026): reserved capacity, refundable TIA bonds, fee burning and bonded services, with a $1.5M spending ceiling; each phase still needs approval. Fibre adoption by production rollups is the next test.

Tokenomics

Supply
1.18B TIA total, no max supply; ~984M circulating (83%). Market cap $615M, FDV $738M.
Inflation
~2.5% a year since CIP-41 (v6 Matcha, Nov 2025), down from ~5% after Lotus (Jul 2025); it falls 6.7% a year toward a 1.5% floor. That is roughly 2.5M new TIA a month.
Unlocks
Investor and team vesting: ~9.7M TIA a month from Nov 2025 to Oct 2026, then ~5.1M a month to Oct 2027 (Messari schedule). The Foundation bought Polychain's 43.4M TIA for $62.5M in Jul 2025 and re-sold it on a new vesting schedule.
Utility
Pays for blobspace, gas on Eden, staking for validators and governance votes.
Distribution
~41% staked across validators; investors and core contributors received roughly half of genesis supply.
Sinks
No burn or buyback live today. The proposed blob economy adds fee burning and refundable bonds; staking (~41%) is the only real lockup.

Bull case

Fibre attracts high-throughput rollups and Eden pulls in agent payments; the blob economy passes with fee burning and paid reserved capacity; unlocks halve to ~5.1M a month from November. TIA holds the $0.60 breakout zone and retakes the $1.07 level of Oct 2025.

Bear case

Fees stay in the thousands of TIA a month while ~7.5M new TIA a month still reaches the market; the October rally, driven partly by short liquidations, fades. Price loses $0.60 and drifts back toward the $0.29 April low.

Watch before the next re-run

  • Monthly blob fees in TIA, and whether Fibre usage shows up in them
  • Blob-economy votes: reserved capacity, bonds and fee burn
  • Unlock step-down to ~5.1M TIA a month from Nov 2026
  • $0.60 support and the $1.07 12-month high
