PYTH

Pyth Network

Oracle

A fast price oracle turning into a paid market-data business, with its token still far below launch levels.

Pivot with real revenue v1.1 · as of 2026-10-21 · framework v1.13 Coinsight · all analyses
Bottom line

Pyth moved its free on-chain oracle onto paid data plans in 2026 and reports $11.5M in annual recurring revenue, with Tradeweb, Fenics and Nasdaq Basic data now on the network. The DAO's share of that revenue now buys PYTH every month, but the amounts are tiny next to the 2.13B PYTH (~$95M) unlocked in May 2026. The token is −28% over a year and −93% from its 2024 high, although it has more than doubled from the June low. The question is whether Pyth Pro revenue can grow fast enough to matter before the last 2.13B unlock in May 2027.

How a price gets from a trading firm to a DeFi trade

Publishers
Firms send their own prices

Exchanges, market makers and banks such as Tradeweb push first-party quotes several times a second.

Pyth Pro (Lazer)
Prices aggregated

Publisher quotes are combined into one price with a confidence interval and signed.

Customer
Pays for a data plan

A DeFi app or institution subscribes in dollars (plans from $500 a month) and gets an API key.

DeFi app
Pulls the price on demand

The app fetches the signed update and posts it on-chain only when a trade or liquidation needs it.

Smart contract
Verifies and settles

The Pyth contract on that chain checks signatures; the perp, lending or options trade settles at that price.

Pyth DAO
Revenue share buys PYTH

The DAO's share of fees goes to monthly open-market PYTH purchases for the treasury.

Where PYTH comes in: it is not needed to read a price, and fees are paid in dollars, so the data flow bypasses the token. PYTH is used for governance and Oracle Integrity Staking, and its only direct link to usage is the DAO buyback at the end.

Values in $M. ARR is Pyth's reported figure for September 2026; the DAO keeps only part of it. Buybacks are an estimate from forum-reported monthly amounts (2.75M PYTH in March down to 0.67M in August) at prevailing prices. The May unlock of 2.13B PYTH is valued at the ~$0.044 close on 19 May. New supply was roughly eight times total revenue and close to a hundred times buybacks.

Secondary figure vs ~$33B for Chainlink; Pyth's edge is derivatives volume, which TVS understates.

Pyth now has real dollar revenue, which is rare for an oracle, and it is growing quickly. But revenue flows to the token only through DAO buybacks, and those were about a hundredth of the supply unlocked in May. Track buyback dollars per month against unlock size.

Project

What it is
A price oracle: trading firms, exchanges and market makers publish their own prices directly, and Pyth aggregates them into feeds used by DeFi apps on dozens of chains (about 84 EVM chains in the 2026 migration alone). Since 2025 it also sells the same data to institutions as Pyth Pro.
Team
Started in 2021 by people from Jump Trading and Jump Crypto. Douro Labs (CEO Mike Cahill, with Jayant Krishnamurthy and Ciaran Cronin) is the main contributor; the Pyth DAO governs the token and treasury.
Technology
Pull model: apps fetch a signed price only when they need it, which suits fast derivatives trading. In 2026 the old Pythnet appchain was retired and all feeds moved to the Pyth Pro (Lazer) stack; API keys and paid plans from $500/month became mandatory with the cutover of 26 Aug 2026.
Traction
$11.5M ARR in Sep 2026 (+86% q/q). Fixed-income prices from Tradeweb, Fenics (BGC) and OpenYield since Jul 2026; approved as a Nasdaq Basic distributor on 22 Sep 2026.
Competitors
Chainlink (still holds most secured value, around 70% of the oracle market by one Jan 2026 estimate), RedStone and Chronicle on-chain; Bloomberg, LSEG and ICE in traditional market data.
Key risks
Remaining 2.13B PYTH unlock in May 2027; a multi-hour outage on 22 May 2026 when Pythnet validators stopped; charging for formerly free feeds may push DeFi users to rivals; buybacks are small.
Roadmap
Strategic Reserve V2 (OP-PIP-136) sends 100% of the DAO's Pyth Pro revenue share into monthly PYTH buys from Oct 2026; a Phase 3 tokenomics discussion (staking, governance) is open on the forum ahead of the May 2027 unlock.

Tokenomics

Supply
Fixed 10B PYTH maximum, no inflation. ~7.87B circulating (79%); market cap $629M vs FDV $799M.
Emissions
No protocol inflation. New float comes only from the vesting schedule and from DAO or ecosystem grants.
Unlocks
2.13B PYTH (~21% of supply, ~$95M) unlocked on 19 May 2026 across ecosystem growth, publisher rewards, protocol development and private sales. A proposal to delay it did not stop it. The last ~2.13B unlocks in May 2027.
Utility
Governance of the Pyth DAO and Oracle Integrity Staking, where holders back publishers and can be slashed. OIS rewards are being wound down; data fees are paid in dollars, not PYTH.
Concentration
About half of supply went to ecosystem growth and publisher rewards, much of it controlled by the DAO and contributors; private-sale investors received 250M in May.
Sinks
Monthly DAO buybacks since Dec 2025 (2.75M PYTH in Mar falling to 0.67M in Aug); from Oct 2026 the DAO's full revenue share goes to buys. Bought tokens go to the treasury, not burned.

Bull case

Pyth Pro keeps growing near +86% a quarter, Nasdaq and bond data bring in institutional subscribers, and the 100% revenue buyback becomes a steady bid. PYTH holds above the $0.063 breakout level and retakes the $0.12 October 2025 high before the May 2027 unlock.

Bear case

Revenue stays in the low tens of millions, so buybacks of a few hundred thousand dollars a month cannot absorb unlocked supply. DeFi users drift to Chainlink or RedStone after the paywall, and PYTH falls back toward the $0.031 June low as May 2027 approaches.

Watch before the next re-run

  • Monthly PYTH bought by the DAO under OP-PIP-136, in dollars
  • Pyth Pro ARR updates (last: $11.5M, Sep 2026)
  • Selling around the May 2027 unlock of ~2.13B PYTH
  • $0.063 breakout level and the $0.093 October high
